  1. while generally a true statement, many times we don’t know what we say will be damaging or unforgetful or hurtful to someone, and certainly not to the same degree if we do know it might be hurtful. I have said many things to my daughter as I raised her alone since 2007, but apparently something said near halloween was ‘too much to bear’ and she left. so, you are right. words you say have definitive ability to cause pain and even to perceive that pain as abuse. but that does not mean that the person who spoke knew the effect of the words they would say…i mean, after raising her for 14 years on my own, I would not have done it purposely…but it does still happen, even when unintended.

  2. I’m sorry for you & your daughter. That must be difficult. I appreciate & understand. People often fail to realize how hurtful words can be, especially when speaking to our (young) children. We can apologize, but our words can never be unsaid. Each of us perceive things differently. No matter our intention, this becomes permanently a part of us.
